We are delighted to announce that agreement has been reached with Athletic Bilbao for the signing of Spanish youth international Yuri Berchiche.The 17-year-old left-back has represented Spain at both U16 and U17 level and will now join up with our U18 Academy side, coached by Alex Inglethorpe.
"Yuri is a very good athlete with a great left foot," said Sporting Director Damien Comolli. "He is strong in the air and particularly suited to the English game because in Bilbao they possess a similar mentality.
"He is regarded as one of the best left-backs coming through in Spain and Yuri will be a very good signing for us. We have been following him for two seasons now and his signing will continue our strategy of strengthening at all levels of the playing side."
