Bentley's best

It was a night of 'bests' for goal hero David Bentley - with a bit of help from Clive Allen.

It was a night of 'bests' for goal hero David Bentley - with a bit of help from Clive Allen.

The midfielder said it was 'one of the best days of my life' after surely scoring the best goal of his career to date in the 4-4 thriller at the Emirates Stadium.

'Bents' got things going with one of the great derby goals after 13 minutes. The ball was bouncing around in central midfield, Jermaine Jenas managed to chest it down to David who flicked it up and volleyed over Manuel Almunia from a distance later confirmed as 39 yards.

Arsenal scored from set-pieces either side of the break and when Emmanuel Adebayor made it 3-1 after 63 minutes it looked all over at 3-1.

Darren Bent reduced arrears soon after but a minute later Adebayor released Robin Van Persie for 4-2.

The clock showed 88.30 when Jermaine Jenas curled home a cracker to make it 4-3, the fourth official then showed four minutes added time and with the clock now on 93.15, Luka Modric's volley hit the post and Aaron Lennon was there to tap in for 4-4.

"It's probably the best night of my career so far," beamed David at the Emirates. "I'm an emotional wreck at the moment!

"We had a team meeting before the game and Clive Allen actually pointed out that the keeper comes off his line and sometimes right out to the edge of his box. That was still in my head early in the game. The ball sat up and I caught it perfectly.

"I went mad. I get so emotional and that's why we all play football.

"We have all been criticised this season but nights like that, goals like that, performances like that - as I said, it's why we all love football.

"We conceded too many easy goals, we know that and we'll address that. We were 4-2 down but showed character, determination, fight and kept going until the final whistle. We'll get things right, keep progressing and keep getting better."
