Alan Gilzean

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

ALAN GILZEAN (1964-74)

One of the best headers of the ball the club has seen, Alan Gilzean struck up lethal partnerships with both Jimmy Greaves and Martin Chivers in a decade at the Lane.

Perthshire-born 'Gilly' helped Dundee to the Scottish League and had already been capped five times by Scotland when he was brought to the Lane by Bill Nicholson in 1964.

He immediately hit it off with Greaves and was a member of the 1967 FA Cup winning team but the arrival of Martin Chivers the following season appeared to put his place at threat.

It didn't turn out that way though as Greaves departed and, instead, Gilzean and Chivers led the line in another golden era as we landed the League Cup in 1971 and 1973 and the UEFA Cup in 1972.

Gilzean won another 17 caps in his time at Spurs before eventually departing, 429 competitive appearances and 133 goals later, for South Africa in 1974.

Appearances/goals: 335(8)/93 (Lg), 40/21 (FAC), 27(1)/6, 27(1)/13 (Eur).
