Reading U18s 2-1 Spurs

Jacques Maghoma marked his return from injury with a stunning strike but it wasn't enough to prevent defeat against Reading on Saturday.

The midfielder (pictured above) has been struggling with an ankle problem but now looks ready for Thursday's FA Youth Cup quarter-final at Watford after smashing in the opening goal at Reading.

Coach Pat Holland was pleased with the lads' performance despite the 2-1 defeat with Reading equalising that Maghoma strike before the interval and seeing a penalty saved by Tommy Forecast (pictured left) in the second half before grabbing a late winner.

Pat takes up the story: "It was a really good first half performance. There was a lot of creative play and we scored an excellent goal through Jacques Maghoma, his first game in weeks, who came inside onto his left foot and hit a tremendous drive into the top corner.

"All was going well and we just needed a second goal but then they broke down our right, we didn't defend it particularly well, the lad hit a shot that Tommy did well to save but the rebound sat up and was nodded home for 1-1.

"In the second half both teams got amongst each other and it became quite physical which was a little bit disappointing.

"We conceded a penalty only for Tommy to make a great save down to his right and we had our chances but with about 10 minutes to go, the ball bounced around in our box and the lad smashed it in.

"In terms of performance I was really pleased with them, the result was disappointing but there were no injuries and that was important with the FA Youth Cup coming up on Thursday."

Spurs U18s: Forecast, Riley, Wright, Lewis, Mills (Lee, 60), Troy, Maghoma, Hamed (Davis, 65), Barcham (Seanla, 70), O'Hara, Daniels. Unused sub: Kyriacou.
