Birmingham City U18s 1-1 Spurs Under-18s

Pat Holland was delighted with how his patched up Under-18s performed against City to stretch their current run to one defeat in nine league matches.

A number of the squad are currently on the treatment table and the problems got worse after just 15 minutes when Jacques Maghoma limped off with an ankle injury.

Coach Pat lost three players on Friday and revealed: "Joe Martin might have played but turned his ankle, Mark Wright (pictured left) was rough with flu but got out of bed and played and Richard Hellar had a bad back but played. You have to give them credit for that."

Nevertheless, the lads performed well, as Pat reflected: "It was always going to be a tough game and I was pleased for the lads.

"We had an unfortunate start when we lost Jacques and that was a bit of a blow, a poor tackle and he's now a doubt for Liverpool on Wednesday, so that's a shame.

"We brought on Brian Mascarhenas and went like for like. They actually bombarded us in the first 10 minutes, we cleared off the line twice and rode our luck.

"But the boys gradually got into it and from corner Charlie Lee (pictured right) got an absolutely magnificent header, far post, great jump and headed back from where it came from.

"That was after about 30 minutes and gave the lads a lift and created another couple of chances.

"The second half was evenly contested but in fairness to Birmingham they worked hard, the ball was played into our box and the lad turned quickly and it was 1-1. They might have nicked towards the end but 1-1 was a fair result, an enjoyable game.

"Fortunately, other than Jacques, there were no more injuries with Liverpool in mind on Wednesday."

Spurs U18s: Eyre, Kyriacou, Wright, Lewis, Lee, O'Hara, Davis, Dawkins, Thyer, Maghoma (Mascarhenas, 15), Hellar (Hamed, 75).
