Spurs Ladies back to winning ways in WSL 2

15 February 2018|Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham Hotspur Ladies’ persistence paid off as they turned around a deficit to win 2-1 against Oxford United during their FA Women’s Super League 2 encounter, putting to bed a winless seven-game run.

Spurs started well. Sarah Wiltshire was inches away from Bianca Baptiste's cross, Wiltshire had a shot blocked, Wendy Martin hit a dipper and Coral-Jade Haines' chip sailed just over all inside 10 minutes. Josie Green was then denied by Demi Lambourne.

After such a bright start, Spurs took a hit as Oxford took the lead. Danielle Carlton fired wide on 21 minutes but four minutes later, Ellis Hillman broke down the left and crossed for Chloe Chivers to head past Chloe Morgan.

Martin prodded past the near post after holding off Hannah Short, Baptiste and Lucia Leon’s pressure gave Martin a one-on-one inside the box, only for Lambourne to keep her out.

Morgan caught Carlton’s dipper on 33 minutes and seven minutes later, Baptiste’s glorious free-kick came within inches of a connection from Martin. Maya Vio’s attempt was caught by Lambourne a minute later.

Spurs took control again in the second half and were rewarded after 68 minutes. Baptiste found Wiltshire in the box and her strike was blocked by Short’s arms. Renee Hector’s spot-kick was saved down low, but Haines guided home the rebound for 1-1.

In the 78th minute, fortunes were changed. Wiltshire’s splitting pass sent Baptiste away on the inside right and her cross found Ryah Vyse at the back-post to tuck home for the winner.
