Carabao Cup winner with Newcastle in 2025 – in doing so, ending the Toon’s 70-year wait for a domestic trophy - Sandro plied his early trade at Brescia – the hometown team of Roberto De Zerbi – and spoke about the influence of Roberto upon joining us.
Life before Spurs
Born in Lodi, Italy, Sandro began his journey with spells at Lombardia Uno and Piacenza before joining Brescia in 2012. He made his professional debut for the then Serie B side in August, 2017, his performances earning successive Player of the Season awards and a move to AC Milan in 2020, initially on loan, a deal then made permanent. He played a key role in the Rossoneri’s first Serie A title since 2011 in 2021/22 and played every game on a run to the Champions League semi-finals in 2022/23. After 130 appearances, he moved to Newcastle in the summer of 2023, making 110 appearances on Tyneside, helping the Toon back into the UCL and lift that long-awaited trophy in 2025.
Italy
A regular for Italy Under-19s (12 caps) and Under-21s (14 caps), Sandro featured at the Under-19 European Championships in 2018 and the Under-21 European Championships the following year. He earned his first senior cap for his country in October, 2019, in a UEFA European Championship qualifying fixture against Liechtenstein. At the end of 2025/26, Sandro had 32 caps to his name.
