West Ham vs Spurs | Ange’s preview: “We want to finish the season strong”

Tue 02 April 2024, 11:30|Tottenham Hotspur

Ange Postecoglou feels the players will take belief from Saturday’s win against Luton Town as we prepare for another big challenge - a trip to east London and West Ham in the Premier League this evening (8.15pm UK).

Always one of the most anticipated derbies of the season, we travel to Stratford sitting fifth in the table having won nine and drawn two of our last 14 matches. West Ham are seventh after a run of four unbeaten was halted in dramatic fashion at Newcastle on Saturday, where they led 3-1 with 77 minutes on the clock only to lose 4-3.

This time of year, every game has a consequence, not just for us, but for every club, everyone is fighting for something

“It’s another tough game, a London derby away from home, and West Ham have been good this year,” said Ange. “So, it’s another good challenge for us but I’m sure the lads will have got a lot of belief out of the win on Saturday and we’re looking forward to it.

“This time of year, every game has a consequence, not just for us, but for every club, everyone is fighting for something. Hopefully, when you get to this time of the year, you are fighting for something meaningful. For us, we’re a bit short of where we want to be, but we want to finish the season strong and if we do that, it sets us up well for what’s ahead.”

Asked about West Ham boss David Moyes in his pre-match press conference on Monday, Ange said: “I think he's an outstanding manager. I rate him so highly. He is one of the ones I have always rated highly. Longevity in the game means something, especially at this level.

"Whether it was at Everton or the difficult job he had at Man United, he went abroad and has never stopped coaching. I think he has done a brilliant job at West Ham and anyone that thinks otherwise... the team they are today, the players they've got there, they have some high-quality footballers in that team, and I think they're going to get better.”
