Sarr scores first-ever goal for Senegal... in double-quick time!

Pape Matar Sarr opened his goalscoring account for Senegal in Saturday night’s 4-0 home victory over South Sudan, needing just 37 seconds to hit the back of the net!

The young central midfielder latched onto the ball at the edge of the box and drilled a low, right-footed shot across the goalkeeper into the bottom corner to give his side an early lead in their opening qualifier for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

He went on to complete 63 minutes of action before being substituted, with the hosts already four goals to the good at the time of his withdrawal.

Elsewhere on Saturday, on-loan striker Troy Parrott went on as a 90th-minute substitute for Republic of Ireland in their 1-0 defeat away to the Netherlands in qualifying for Euro 2024.

The result saw the Netherlands secure their place at the tournament finals – a pleasing outcome for Micky van de Ven, who made his senior international debut for the Dutch last month but who is currently sidelined with an injury.

The Republic, meanwhile, finished their qualifying campaign fourth in Group B, with six points from eight games.
