Alejo Veliz: “I’ll give everything for this shirt”

Alejo Veliz says he’s ‘totally fulfilling a dream’ to sign for Spurs.
Still only 19, Alejo has already made an impact in Argentina, where he featured over 50 times and scored the winner in the Clásico Rosarino against Newell’s Old Boys in July last year. He caught the eye again this summer, when he scored in all three of Argentina’s group games in the FIFA Under-20 World Cup, only for the hosts to go out to Nigeria in the Round of 16.
Now to a new chapter, on and off the pitch, where Alejo will follow in the footsteps of the likes of Ossie Ardiles, Ricky Villa, Erik Lamela and will now be greeted by compatriots and World Cup winners, Gio Lo Celso and Cuti Romero…
Speaking exclusively to SPURSPLAY, Alejo told us: “When I first found about everything that was happening and that the club was interested in me, to be honest with you, I couldn’t believe it. It really didn’t sink in until I actually arrived here, and I realised exactly what was here. It really is a magnificent club and here’s hoping that I make the very most of my opportunity and perform in the best way possible.
“I’m coming here with a huge desire to do well. I’m totally on board and 100 per cent focussed on the task in hand here. I’m really pleased and grateful to have my family here with me, they’re always with me, and I’m totally fulfilling a dream, coming here to such a massive club. I will do my level best to grab my opportunity and hopefully everything will go as well as it possibly can for me here.
“When the opportunity came up for me to come here, I had no doubts whatsoever. I chatted with my family about it, and they were 100 per cent with me on my decision. Potentially, it might be a little bit tough to settle into life over here, but I’m fortunate to have Gio and one or two of the lads here at the club who have already reassured me that all will be fine and who will be here alongside me offering their help and support for whatever I may need.”
As for having Cuti and Gio around to help that settling in period, Alejo added: “The first thing that I’ll be doing is to check in with them to help me to get established here and feel fully settled in. The good thing is that I am a pretty open and friendly type of character and I always like to get on well with everyone, so I think that I will settle in very well here.”
As for his style of play, Alejo told us: “I’m very good in the air, but overall, I’m very passionate player who gives absolutely everything. I run for everything, and I never give up any pass as a lost cause. I’m going to give everything I can for this shirt.”
