Home defeat to Everton - on-the-whistle WSL report

Spurs Women 0-3 Everton Women

Wed 14 December 2022, 21:00|Tottenham Hotspur

We were beaten 3-0 by Everton in the Women's Super League on Wednesday night, Kagja Snoeijs, Jessica Park and Gio the goalscorers at Brisbane Road.

Rehanne Skinner made three changes to the side that began Sunday's game against West Ham, Asmita Ale, Ashleigh Neville and Nikola Karczewska coming in for Celin Bizet, Kerys Harrop and Chioma Ubogagu.

But Everton took the lead early on, Nicoline Sorensen's cross from the right wing falling to Snoeijs to put the away side ahead.

We had our first chance of the game when Neville's promising cross from the left was attacked by Drew Spence, but she headed straight at Emily Ramsey. Lucy Graham then drilled wide of the post with power on the outside of her right foot from distance, before Everton doubled their lead as Becky Spencer lost control of the ball in our box and Park capitalised, taking possession and placing the ball into an empty net for 2-0.

Karczewska played in Neville, and she beat her opposing defender before shooting straight at the keeper and Gabrielle George saw her strike saved at the other end by Spencer, who was diving down to her right to catch. Neville found the feet of Karczewska moments later, the latter poking the ball just over the bar from inside the 18-yard box, and George then headed a corner over the bar in an end-to-end final few minutes of the first half. Karczewska volleyed wide of the bottom left corner via a deflection, while Spence had a shot that was too soft as we went into the break 2-0 down.

We made two changes at half-time, Angharad James and Jessica Naz coming on for So-hyun Cho and Karczewska respectively.

In the second half, Snoeijs had an effort from a Park cross blocked behind by Molly Bartrip, and the following corner was headed over by George. At the other end, Bartrip's corner came out to Naz, who volleyed over the bar, but it was proving a tough night for us.

Aggie Beever-Jones had a chance to make it 3-0 when she got on the end of a ball over the top and lifted it over Spencer, but the flag was raised for offside, while Nicoline Sorensen's free-kick came out to Hanna Bennison, who looped it into the arms of Spencer.

Naz had to be substituted back off the pitch as Bizet came on in the 76th minute.

Beever-Jones headed at Spencer and Neville curled wide as we continued to look for a way back into the game, while Park drifted in from Everton's left and struck low and hard, but Spencer was equal to it.

With the game heading towards its conclusion, Neville was shown a straight red card after a challenge at the edge of our box in the 90th minute, and Gio added another in stoppage time to round off a disappointing night from our perspective.
