Commanding Conti Cup win for Spurs Women at Watford

Wed 17 November 2021, 22:00|Tottenham Hotspur

It was eleven heaven for Spurs Women as they beat Watford 11-0 in the Continental Cup on Wednesday at the Orbital Fasteners Stadium.

Rosella Ayane and Angela Addison scored hat-tricks, with Asmita Ale, Esther Morgan, Chioma Ubogagu, Cho So-Hyun and a debut finish for Izzy Lane rounded off a dominant evening for us.

Addison had an early chance as she broke in behind the Watford defence but fired just over. The forward had the ball in the net twice in the opening 10 minutes of the half, but both times was judged offside.

We hit the post in the following sequence. Ale whipped a fierce ball onto the head of Cho. Her attempt was palmed away by Mia Smith, before Addison swivelled and blasted the rebound onto the woodwork.

It was a third offside finish for Addison in the 23rd minute after Ale clipped an inviting ball to her at the back post and she converted calmly - but once more it was ruled out.

We continued to cause problems for the Watford backline, with Addison again at the heart of it. Ale found her in the right channel, she beat her marker with some nice skill but fired over from close range. Ayane had the same problem when she was unable to sort her feet out for a low Morgan cross and diverted the ball above the bar.

Ayane tested again but this time was denied by the outstretched glove of Smith. But we took the lead through a superb strike from Ale who grabbed her first goal for Spurs. She took a touch on the edge of the area and drilled the ball into the bottom corner.

It was a beauty to double our lead. Ayane touched the ball down for Graham, who slipped it in behind on the return. The forward rolled the ball across the six yard box for Morgan to tap home - also her first goal for the Club!

We added a third minutes later with Addison finally getting her goal - and it was a superb solo effort! She beat her marker, dropped her shoulder and curled the ball into the bottom corner.

Addison bagged her second of the evening in added time when Morgan turned provider and found our number 14 who converted from close range to make it 4-0.

Beginning the second half like we ended the first, debutant Lane made an instant impact. A well delivered low cross from the winger was finished neatly by Ayane.

Substitute Ubogagu then picked up her inaugural goal for the Club, as she was played through by Addison and finished past Smith to add a sixth goal to our tally.

Ayane grabbed her second just after the hour mark with a composed finish, and in the 73rd minute she completed her hat-trick. Josie Green lofted an inviting corner which was punched by Smith to Ayane on the edge of the area. Her header evaded everyone and bounced into the back of the net.

We were on cloud nine when Addison too completed her hat-trick. This was the goal of the night, as she showed some good footwork on the edge of the area and fired home a rocket.

Cho got in on the act to make it 10-0 - becoming the fourth player of the night to score their first Spurs goal. After her initial strike was blocked she curled the ball into the far corner.

The night was rounded off perfectly as Lane capped her debut with a goal. The ball dropped to her and she smashed it past Smith making it 11-0.

The result means we remain top of our Conti Cup group. Our next game is against West Ham on Sunday (21 November).
