New signing Bryan Gil helped Spain reach the men’s football semi-finals at the Olympic Games in Japan on Saturday morning.

The winger came off the bench in the 66th minute of his side’s quarter-final clash with Ivory Coast, with Spain eventually winning 5-2 after extra time, the tie having been level at 2-2 after 90 minutes.

Spain will now face hosts Japan in the last four at 12pm UK on Tuesday.

Our Women’s first team captain Shelina Zadorsky is also into the semi-finals of the women’s football section after Canada beat Brazil 4-3 on penalties on Friday.

Shelina was an unused substitute as the match ended goalless, before her nation secured their progress from 12 yards.

Canada now face USA in a huge semi-final showdown on Monday morning (9am UK).
