Southampton Women's FC 0-7 Spurs Women

Sun 28 July 2019, 20:01|Tottenham Hotspur

Coral-Jade Haines scored a fine hat-trick as Spurs Women kicked their pre-season off in style with a 7-0 victory over Southampton Women’s FC on Sunday afternoon.

Rianna Dean, Chloe Peplow, Josie Green and Jess Naz netted the other goals against the Women’s National League Division One South West side at the Silverlake Stadium.

Gemma Davison, Peplow, Lucy Quinn, Siri Worm and Ria Percival started for the first time, while Becky Spencer and Rosella Ayane came off the bench to make their debuts.

We took the lead through Haines who made a bursting run forward before unleashing a right-footed volley into the far corner past Southampton goalkeeper Rosie Kite.

We doubled our advantage 11 minutes later when Davison cleverly latched onto a hopeful ball from Chloe Morgan and calmly slid it across the goal to Dean, who converted with ease into an empty net.

On the brink of half-time, Quinn and Dean played a quick and neat interchange on the edge of the box before our top goalscorer of last season laid the ball off to the incoming Haines who powered home for her second goal of the game.

We picked up from where we left off in the second half and within six minutes of the break Haines completed her hat-trick with a superb shot into the top corner.

Peplow scored an exquisite goal on her debut – her long-range strike in the 72nd-minute made it 5-0. Nine minute later, we converted our sixth goal – clever work from the lively Naz on the right allowed her to weave into the box and pull it back for Green who fired it past Southampton’s substitute goalkeeper Izzy Platten.

Naz got herself on the scoresheet a couple of minutes later – a top-class backheel from Ayane found the forward who fired the ball into the far corner to wrap up a commanding victory.
