Internationals - Serge's Ivory Coast into quarter-finals

Serge Aurier took his place on the bench as Ivory Coast made it through to the quarter-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations with a 1-0 win over Mali on Monday evening.

After picking up an injury in his nation’s second game of the group stage against Morocco, the right-back missed out on the 4-1 win over Namibia last time out.

But he returned among the substitutes to see his side beat Mali in the last 16, thanks to a 76th-minute goal from Wilfried Zaha in Suez, Egypt.

Serge remained unused on the night.

The result means Ivory Coast will face Algeria in the last eight on Thursday (11 July), kick-off 5pm UK time.
