Internationals - Foyth wins bronze at Copa America

Sun 07 July 2019, 09:03|Tottenham Hotspur

Juan Foyth helped Argentina secure third place at the Copa America with a 2-1 win over Chile on Saturday night.

Our young defender lined up at right-back and played the full 90 minutes in São Paulo as Sergio Aguero and Paulo Dybala put Argentina two goals up inside 22 minutes, before Lionel Messi and Chile’s Gary Medel were sent off. Arturo Vidal pulled one back from the penalty spot for Chile just before the hour mark.

On the bench for Argentina’s first two matches in the group stage, Juan started all his nation’s remaining four games.

His hopes of victory were dashed with a 2-0 loss to host nation Brazil in the semi-finals, but Saturday’s result made sure of a bronze medal at his first major international tournament.

Chile, winners of the past two instalments of the tournament, ended up in the third place play-off after a 3-0 semi-final defeat to Peru.
