Lucas: ‘It really feels like a family here’

Lucas Moura has underlined the importance of feeling settled in a working environment after signing his new contract.

The Brazil international today put pen to paper on a new deal with the Club until 2024 following an electrifying first 18 months in north London which have seen him net a host of memorable goals, none more so than his hat-trick against Ajax in the Champions League semi-final towards the end of last season.

The all-action attacker, who turns 27 on Tuesday, spent the second half of the 2017/18 season acclimatising to life at the Club following his January, 2018, move from Paris Saint-Germain and, since then, hasn’t looked back.

“To play football you need to feel comfortable, you need to be free, have nice team-mates and I have this here,” beamed Lucas after signing his new contract. “It really feels like a family here, my team-mates have been fantastic since my first day here and that’s why I think the adaptation was really fast.

“I am so happy, it’s very good news for me (to sign a new contract). I feel so comfortable here, everyone is amazing, the fans, the Club… I am so thankful for everything that the Club has given me and now I just need to give my best like I always do and show everyone that I love to play football. I want to bring a lot more for this Club. My objective is always to be better and make the fans happy.”

Prior to Saturday’s opening-weekend fixture against Aston Villa at the new stadium (5.30pm), Lucas is full of optimism over what the 2019/20 campaign can bring: “For this season I feel good things,” he added. “I think we are better now, we are stronger. I think that we can get a trophy. We have the quality for this and it’s another chapter with the new stadium and new players. Like I said, we are strong and I am really excited to play because I feel that we will be happy this season.”
