International round-up

Wed 21 November 2018, 10:55|Tottenham Hotspur

Paulo Gazzaniga enjoyed a clean sheet on his debut for Argentina in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

The goalkeeper stepped off the bench in the 59th minute and ensured there was no way through for opponents Mexico as his nation ran out 2-0 winners in a home friendly. Erik Lamela started the game for Argentina and was withdrawn at the same time as Paulo’s introduction while Juan Foyth was an unused substitute.

Paulo’s fellow Spurs stopper Hugo Lloris also maintained a clean sheet for France as Les Bleus won 1-0 at home to Uruguay on Tuesday evening. Hugo played the full match while Moussa Sissoko was introduced off the bench in stoppage time.

Elsewhere on Tuesday, on-loan defender Cameron Carter-Vickers played 90 minutes for USA but saw his side lose 1-0 in Italy while full-back Kyle Walker-Peters initiated the moves for England Under-21s’ first two goals in a comfortable 5-1 victory away to Denmark. Kyle started the game and played 71 minutes.

Development Squad midfielder Jack Roles scored for Cyprus Under-21s as they drew 1-1 with Georgia, defender TJ Eyoma played 90 minutes as England Under-19s lost 1-0 to Turkey and goalkeeper Jonathan De Bie also put in a full shift for Belgium Under-19s in their 2-2 draw with France.

Monday’s action saw Christian Eriksen play the first half of Denmark’s home 0-0 draw with Republic of Ireland while three of our young players were involved in a 3-1 win for England Under-18s against Belgium in Spain. Defender Luis Binks played the whole game, midfielder Paris Maghoma came on at half-time and winger J’Neil Bennett was introduced as a 72nd-minute substitute.

All players will now report back to Hotspur Way as we prepare for the return of Premier League football this weekend. There’s a trio of important London derbies on the agenda – both the first team and Under-23s face Chelsea while our youth team host Arsenal in a top-of-the-table clash in the Under-18 Premier League.
