Internationals | Victory for young Sweden duo
Matilda Nilden and Hanna Wijk helped Sweden Under-23s come from behind to beat Finland in an international friendly on Thursday evening
Our young Swedish duo both featured in the clash at Studenternas IP, in Sweden, as two goals in the final five minutes of normal time saw their nation turn a 2-1 deficit into a 3-2 victory on the night.
Matilda started and completed over just an hour in the friendly while defender Hanna was a late second half substitute, entering the field in the 74th-minute for Klara Svensson.
The friendly against the Finns provided preparation for the young Swedes ahead of their first game against Germany on Monday 12 October in the next edition of the WU23 European Competition.
Elsewhere, on Wednesday afternoon, Sophie Jackson’s and Rania Ourkiss’ England Under-19s side were beaten 5-1 by Denmark in their first qualifier for next summer’s UEFA Women’s Under-19s European Championship.
Our young shot stopper was named in the starting XI, but suffered a huge blow just nine minutes in as she was shown a straight red for a foul outside the area.
Midfielder Rania was an unused substitute as John Salomon’s side begin their qualifying campaign with a heavy defeat.
