Sarr in Senegal squad for 2026 World Cup

Pape Matar Sarr has been named in Senegal’s squad for this summer’s FIFA World Cup.

The 23-year-old midfielder is part of the initial 28-player group and, if selected, will be heading to this major international tournament for the second time having featured twice in the 2022 edition in Qatar.

Pape, who has earned 38 caps, played in every World Cup qualifying game stretching back to November 2023 to help his nation secure their place in United States, Canada and Mexico where they have been drawn in Group I alongside France, Norway and Iraq.

Opening their campaign against France at the MetLife Stadium (8pm UK) on 16 June, the Lions of Teranga then face Norway at the same venue (1am UK) on 23 June and then Iraq at BMO Field in Toronto (8pm UK) three days later.

Pape Thiaw will have to trim his squad to 26 players ahead of the final deadline on Tuesday 2 June.
