Our FA Women’s Continental League Cup campaign continues with the visit of Coventry United at Brisbane Road on Sunday (2pm KO).
We won our first group game 2-1 against Reading in October.
Coventry’s Championship story so far
After winning the National League South in April 2019, Coventry were promoted to the FA Women’s Championship. They finished ninth and 10th across the last two seasons in the second tier.
Ahead of the 2021/22 campaign, the club became fully professional for the first time, but had to announce plans to liquidate in December of that season due to financial concerns.
Investors Angels Group successfully acquired the club and cleared the debts, but the team were given a 10-point deduction. Nevertheless, late on in the season, Mollie Green scored a 97th minute free-kick that beat and relegated Watford from the Championship as Coventry stayed up.
The club had to go back to a part-time setup ahead of this season to stabilise finances, but plans to return to a full-time professional model by the 2023/24 season.
This season
Under new head coach Lee Burch, Coventry have struggled to get going in the league so far this season, sitting bottom of the Championship with nine defeats from nine matches.
Rehanne’s thoughts
In her pre-match interview, Rehanne said: “It’s an opportunity to try to get everybody onto the same page. I’ve said it before, the whole squad’s really important and it’s been difficult at times, with the amount of injuries and things that have happened that have stopped us from having players available to us all the time."
Match officials
Chloe-Ann Small has been appointed to take charge of Sunday’s game, Emily Carney and Aaron Ford her assistants and Sophie Dennington the fourth official.
Head-to-head
We have met Coventry on just two occasions, beating them 5-0 in the FA Cup during the 2019/20 season and 3-2 in the Continental League Cup in the 2021/22 campaign.
