Nabil's night to remember!

Thu 18 December 2014, 09:05|Tottenham Hotspur

Nabil Bentaleb savoured the moment after scoring his first goal for the Club – even if the celebrations took him somewhat by surprise!

The 20-year-old prodded the ball home at the back post after Christian Eriksen’s corner wasn’t properly dealt with – the first of four goals we grabbed against Newcastle United in Wednesday’s convincing Capital One Cup fifth round win at White Hart Lane.

Nacer Chadli, Harry Kane and Roberto Soldado completed a 4-0 victory in the second half, booking a semi-final clash with Sheffield United.

It proved to be a memorable night all round for Algerian international midfielder Nabil, who was understandably thrilled to open his goalscoring account on his 34th senior appearance for us.

“It feels great, scoring my first goal after 34 games, getting the win and going through to the next round,” he said.

“It’s a fantastic feeling to hit the back of the net. I’m not sure if it was a great finish – a good goal perhaps – but I’ll certainly take it.

“I didn’t know what to do when it went in! I was just happy. I was shocked because I didn’t see the ball go in but then everyone was running towards me!”

Reflecting on the game as a whole, Nabil continued:  “We started well, managed to get a goal and from there we stayed strong and showed what we can do. We passed the ball around well, made Newcastle run and, as they tired, we scored a few more goals.

“We all said we wanted to go as far as possible in this competition and now we’re as close as we can be to Wembley. We have to keep on going and a win like that can take us forward.”
