Nabil on target as Algeria reach last eight

Tue 27 January 2015, 20:45|Tottenham Hotspur

Nabil Bentaleb found the net in some style as Algeria secured their progress into the quarter-finals of the African Cup of Nations with a 2-0 win over Senegal on Tuesday evening.

Our 20-year-old midfielder scored his side’s second goal of the night eight minutes from time, receiving a square ball from Sofiane Feghouli on the edge of the box before arrowing into the bottom corner with his left foot.

It was Nabil’s second goal on the international scene, having opened his account in a 2-1 friendly victory over Romania in June, 2014.

Leicester City’s Riyad Mahrez had earlier put his side into an 11th-minute lead as Algeria secured their passage into the next stage of the competition as runners-up in Group C.

They will face the winners of Group D – in which Ivory Coast, Mali, Cameroon and Guinea are all currently level on two points apiece – on Sunday.
