Bright start for Cy

Mon 20 July 2015, 11:15|Tottenham Hotspur

Cy Goddard is looking to progress in 2015-16 – and took steps in the right direction in our Spurs XI friendly at Peterborough United on Saturday.

The young midfielder, 18, won praise from coach Ugo Ehiogu for his performance up against Posh’s experienced duo Jack Collison and Michael Bostwick in the 3-2 defeat at the ABAX Stadium.

We only had two players over 20 in our squad while Posh started and played for an hour with the team that is expected to challenge for promotion from League One, including ex-Spur Ben Alnwick in goal.

Goals from Shayon Harrison and Ismail Azzaoui saw us come from 2-0 down to level 2-2 only to concede a late winner.

“We had some very good spells against a tough team and matched, perhaps even played better than them in periods of the game.,” said Cy, a Japanese youth international. “We showed a lot of character, individuals stepped up and did well.

“I tried to look like I wasn’t fazed so right from the first whistle, I tried to get at them, play forward early and not get intimidated. I felt I coped well and the team played well.

“I’m just trying to perform at the best of my ability to get a good basis for the season and try to build my way up.”
