Brad kicks-off coaching career

05 January 2016|Tottenham Hotspur

Brad Friedel will begin his head coaching career as leader of the USA Under-19 national team.

The goalkeeper called time on a glorious playing career at the end of last season - a career that spanned three decades and included playing spells at Liverpool, Galatasaray, Blackburn, Villa and finally here at Spurs.

Brad, 44, made the last 67 of his total 729 career appearances for us between 2011-2014, during which he put together a Premier League record for most consecutive appearances with 310.

Now a Club Ambassador in the United States and pundit on Fox Sports, Brad earned 82 caps for the US including featuring in three World Cups before announcing his international retirement in 2005.

Now he's back in the national team fold.

"Brad played at the highest level for almost two decades, and his knowledge will be a huge benefit to our young players," said US national coach and fellow ex-Spur, Jurgen Klinsmann.

"I look forward to the opportunity to help develop our young players into professionals and full internationals," said Brad. "The last four years I have focused my coaching at the academy and development levels, and I'm excited to work with the entire group of committed Youth National Team staff members to increase our levels of development here in the United States."

The new Under-19 squad, which features players from last year's Under-17 World Cup, will play their first games later this month in the Copa del Atlantico in the Canary Islands.
