Juventus v Spurs - Mauricio's preview
13 February 2018|Tottenham Hotspur
Mauricio Pochettino describes Juventus as ‘one of the best teams in the world’ - but he has every intention of approaching this huge UEFA Champions League Round of 16 first leg on the front foot in Turin.
It is certainly a meeting of two in-form teams.
Juventus stretched their winning run to nine matches in all competitions with a 2-0 victory over Fiorentina in Serie A on Friday night. They’ve conceded just one goal in their last 16 games.
However, our derby win over Arsenal on Saturday made it 12 without defeat and we’ve taken seven points from nine against United, Liverpool and the Gunners in our last three in the Premier League.
“We are going to be aggressive, brave and try to win,” said Mauricio.
“It’s the Champions League and we are going to play one of the best teams in the world. They have unbelievable players, a great manager and it will be tough as they have a lot of experience of competing at this type of level and competition.
“We need to make everything difficult for them, try to dominate and play in our way.
“It will be an exciting game and we are so motivated and so excited to play.”
As a manager, Mauricio is relishing the prospect of trying to break down that famous Juve defence, led by evergreen Italian legends Gianluigi Buffon and Giorgio Chiellini.
“It’s true, it’s a big challenge for us,” said Mauricio. “They are so strong, so tough and difficult to break down, but they also have that quality offensively.
“They have a good balance between offence and defence and both phases of the game will be tough.
“We need to be right and prepared to compete. If we are focused and giving our best, we are going to be tough for Juventus and any team. That is the key, being at our best, belief, confidence and energy to compete.”
