White Hart Lane has said farewell to some giant names in football over the years with home fans always there to pay their respect. In this series we have been looking back on the careers on some special players who have all enjoyed that unique Spurs send-off. But this month the subject is England goalkeeper Peter Shilton.

Manager Terry Venables was the catalyst that saw veteran England goalkeeper Peter Shilton say farewell to international football at White Hart Lane. So on a bitterly cold night 12,181 of us looked on as an England XI beat an Italia 90 XI 4-0.

It was December 18, 1990, and Shilton had just announced his retirement after winning 125 caps for his country. But he would go on playing his club football with Derby County, Plymouth Argyle, Bolton Wanderers and Leyton Orient.
