Moore scores again but England Under-17s suffer defeat

Mikey Moore was on target for England Under-17s in a 4-1 defeat to Portugal at the European Under-17 Championships in Larnaca on Friday evening.

Our 16-year-old attacking midfielder, who netted twice in the Young Lions’ 4-0 win over France earlier this week, scored his third goal of the tournament to get his nation back on level terms after Rodrigo Mora’s opener for Portugal.

With half-time approaching, Mikey kept his composure to get on the end of Leo Shahar’s cross and finish coolly.

Unfortunately for England, Portugal pushed on to win after the break through Mora, Gabriel Silva and Afonso Patrão.

It means the Young Lions will need a positive result against Spain on Monday (6.30pm UK) if they’re to progress from Group D.

Mikey was substituted in the 84th minute on Friday evening, with Club team-mate Callum Olusesi having come off the bench on 69 minutes.
