Ben Davies, Brennan Johnson and Joe Rodon suffered the pain of a penalty shoot-out loss to Poland in their play-off final for a place at this summer's European Championship Finals in Germany.

All three started as skipper Ben, earning his 86th cap and aiming for a fourth major tournament, had a goal narrowly ruled out for offside in the first half as a tense affair with such a huge prize at stake ended goalless after extra time at Cardiff City Stadium. Brennan (26 caps) was substituted on 70 minutes while Joe (43 caps), on loan at Leeds, completed the 90.

Poland were first up in the shoot-out, while Ben again led from the front to take the first spot-kick for Wales, converting straight down the middle. However, Poland scored all five of their penalties and when Dan James missed the fifth for Wales, Poland took the shoot-out 5-4.
