Vicario in the running for Premier League Save of the Month

Thu 05 October 2023, 14:00|Tottenham Hotspur

Guglielmo Vicario has received a nomination for the Castrol Premier League Save of the Month.

A summer signing from, Guglielmo has enjoyed a very encouraging start between the sticks in N17, making 27 saves so far in the top flight (the seventh most in the division) - and one of those made in September has been recognised as one of the best in the Premier League.

Coming in our 5-2 win over Burnley at the start of the month, our Italian goalkeeper was called upon to deny Lyle Foster from close range, as the forward burst into the box down the right. Cristian Romero had put his body on the line in the immediacy which took a large sting out of Foster's effort however, while the power had been taken out of the shot, the ball ball looped up off the Argentine's leg and headed for the far left-hand corner of the net.

And that was where 'Vic' had to step in, leaping expertly at full stretch to his right to get his fingertips to the ball and divert it over the bar.

The Castrol Premier League Save of the Month award was introduced last season, but it is one we are yet to see one of our players win. Hugo Lloris was nominated for the prize in each of first three months of last season but was unfortunately unsuccessful, so Guglielmo could become the first Spurs player to win the prize, as well as the first Italian.

He has competition though as Jordan Pickford (for Everton at Sheffield United), Wes Foderingham (for Sheffield United vs Everton), Ederson (for Manchester City at West Ham United), David Raya (for Arsenal vs Spurs), Robert Sanchez (for Chelsea vs Aston Villa) and Alisson (for Liverpool at Spurs).

As usual, your votes can help Guglielmo take the prize, so show you support to our Italian goalkeeper by voting for him via the link below. Voting is now open and closes at 12noon on Monday 9 October.
