Sonny: “I want to feel this feeling forever!”

Mon 07 December 2020, 13:00|Tottenham Hotspur

Heung-Min Son tried to be humble, but how could he after a goal like that, and an afternoon like this?

Sonny’s 10th goal in 11 games this season in the Premier League will go down as one of the great strikes of the north London derby, certainly in the modern era, as we toppled Arsenal 2-0 at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday.

Picking up the ball from Harry Kane just inside Arsenal’s half, left channel, Sonny drove towards the box, cut inside and unleashed a beauty from 25 yards that left Bernd Leno grasping at thin air for the opening goal on 13 minutes.

Half-an-hour later, Sonny turned provider as the Son-Kane partnership struck again. This time it was Sonny with a clever reverse pass into the path of Harry, who blasted into the top corner for 2-0, and in doing so, become the all-time top scorer in NLD history - a history that goes back to January, 1921.

So, a derby victory, two wonderful goals, a clean sheet, back on top of the Premier League and fans back in Tottenham Hotspur Stadium - what a day!

The performance was phenomenal. What can I say? It’s an amazing day. I just want to enjoy it

“I can’t be humble today!” smiled Sonny, who is exactly that in every interview. “What can I say? If I was to say it was a lucky goal people are going to say... it was a beautiful moment.

“To score a goal like this is really, really good, but I’m happier to get the three points than to score a goal like that. We won the game, and the performance was phenomenal.

“I just hope the clip of this goal will be used forever. What can I say? It’s an amazing day and I just want to enjoy it. I want to feel this feeling forever.”

Sonny’s opener on 13 minutes provided that crucial opening goal, so important in these matches.

He added: “Arsenal were pushing hard, we wanted to score first, and we knew we had to be clinical. The fans are back, north London derby, it was a fantastic time to score and the players, the fans deserve these three points today. It was incredible to have the fans back, incredible. We’ve missed them.”
