Southampton pay their first visit to our new stadium as we take on the Saints in the Premier League on Saturday (3pm). We turn the spotlight on the team from St Mary's...

Team news

Moussa Djenepo remains unavailable with a a recurring muscle injury in his upper leg. The winger missed Southampton's Carabao Cup win against Portsmouth.

Alex McCarthy is also contending with a slight muscle problem following his involvement on Tuesday night, but isn't yet ruled out.

Southampton's form

Beaten 3-0 at Burnley on the opening weekend of the season and then by Liverpool, Southampton have responded with just one defeat in their last six games in all competitions. That loss came against Bournemouth at St Mary's last week. Their away form has been impressive with victories at Brighton and Sheffield United and in an important clash in terms of local pride, a 4-0 win against rivals Portsmouth at Fratton Park in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday.

New faces

Danny Ings' loan spell from Liverpool was made permanent this summer. The striker made his name at Bournemouth and then Burnley before his move to Anfield in 2015 but a combination of a serious knee injury and the form of the likes of Mo Salah, Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Divock Origi restricted his playing time. Fellow striker Che Adams also joined in the summer after plundering 22 goals for Birmingham in the Championship last season. Another notable addition was winger Moussa Djenepo from Standard Liege, although he's injured - a blow for the Saints after he scored in the 2-0 win at Brighton and the winner at Sheffield United. Austrian defender Kevin Danso also arrived in the summer on loan from FC Augsburg.

Leader of the opposition...

The first Austrian to manage in the Premier League, Ralph Hasenhuttl arrived at St Mary's in December, 2018 with Southampton in trouble, third from bottom with only one win in their first 15 matches. Hasenhuttl guided them to eight wins in the second half of the season for a final position of 16th, five points clear of the drop. A striker in his playing days - he won eight caps for Austria - Hasenhuttl began his coaching career at 3.Bundesliga sides Unterhaching and VfR Aalen, who he guided to promotion. Next up, a spell at Ingolstadt, who he took from bottom of 2.Bundesliga to promotion as champions in 2014/15 and then a comfortable 11th-placed finish in their first campaign in the top flight. Hasenhuttl took over at RB Leipzig in 2016 and, playing his trademark pressing game, they finished runners-up to Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga, earning a place in the Champions League. He stepped away from that job in May, 2018 before Southampton came calling last December.

Played for both

A product of our youth system and a mainstay in our side for over a decade, David Howells was a tenacious competitor in the heart of our midfield. He made his debut for our first team at the age of 18 and scored as we defeated Sheffield Wednesday 2-1. He went on to make over 300 appearances for us and chipped in with 27 goals. The midfielder wore his heart on his sleeve and put his body on the line for the shirt – it was that passion and commitment that helped us to FA Cup glory in 1991 as we beat Nottingham Forest 2-1 at Wembley.

In 1998, he moved onto pastures new with Southampton but retired from the professional game due to a knee injury. He's  been back in a Spurs shirt since then - 'Howellsy' is a regular for our Legends team and played in our stadium test event against Inter back in March.
