He’s already done it once - could Heung-Min Son make history again when we face Manchester City in the Champions League on Tuesday night?
Sonny’s place in Club folklore is already in the bag after he scored the first senior goal at the new stadium, the opener in our 2-0 win against Palace in the Premier League last week.
The South Korean star said it would be ‘unbelievable’ to double up by scoring the first Champions League goal at the new stadium as well but his focus is on one target in this quarter-final, first leg - a win.
“It’s not important who scores the first goal, for me, the important thing is that we win with a clean sheet,” he said. “I don’t care if I score. My wish is that we win with a clean sheet.
“I can’t wait to play in this unbelievable new stadium, with the fans... if we get a good result it will be amazing.”
We should just be focused for the first leg, show our best performance and then we have a chance to make history
City’s form is impressive, as you’d expect for a team chasing the quadruple. Their last defeat was at Newcastle on 29 January and since then they’ve won 13 and drawn one of 14 in all competitions. The draw was against Chelsea in the Carabao Cup Final and they won on penalties.
“You know Man City are always good, they are successful” added Sonny. “I’ll say what I’ve said before, they are strong like us and it will be a massive game. We should respect them but we are not scared. We should just go brave with our ambition and then we have a big chance.
“These games are massive. We play three times against them (9, 17 and 20 April, Champions League and Premier League) so we’ll enjoy it. We are a positive team, positive people and we can take positive energy into these games.”
