Detroit Spurs adopt a highway!

Thu 15 November 2018, 15:38|Tottenham Hotspur

Members of Detroit Spurs, one of our official Supporters’ Clubs, have adopted a two-mile stretch of highway roadside near their home town as part of an initiative run by the Michigan Department of Transportation to keep the state’s roads clean.

To mark their stretch of road, the Supporters’ Club have renamed it ‘Tottenham Hotspur’ and have erected a sign with the Club’s name on it.

Members of Detroit Spurs meet regularly to clean their section of the highway, which is situated in Rochester, a suburb of Detroit, and often collect over 10 bags of rubbish filled with cans, bottles, food wrappers and other items of household waste.

Simon Groom, Chairman of Detroit Spurs, said: “Detroit Spurs have been volunteering to clean the roads around Detroit for three years, and each year we get more of our members giving up their time. This year, it’s fantastic to have a dedicated stretch of road which we can rename Tottenham Hotspur and ensure we keep it as tidy as possible.”

We currently have 190 official Supporters' Clubs across the world, including in South Korea, India, Singapore, Lebanon, Nigeria, Australia, Bermuda, South Africa, Brazil and USA. In the UK and Ireland, we have 47 clubs, stretching from Cornwall to Glasgow as well as special interest groups such as Proud Lilywhites, for our LGBT+ supporters, SpursAbility, for our disabled fans, and Armed Forces Spurs for serving and former members of the British Armed Forces.
