Scots College secure the national title

Spurs Football Development partner Scots College, Wellington secured an impressive 3-0 victory to win its first ever national football title – the first time in 36 years that a team from Wellington has achieved this success. This makes the 2025 First XI the most successful football team in Scots College history – a milestone that will be remembered for years to come.

Scots College Head Coach, Martin Bueno, praised the teams display, highlighting their defensive resilience and sharp execution in transition. “It was a disciplined and professional performance. The players stuck to the plan, defended superbly, and showed real quality going forward.”

Business Development & Partnership Manager, Ross Metherell, said: “This is a fantastic result and a great reward for all the hard work the coaches, players and support staff have been putting in during the season. Be proud of the performance, enjoy the moment and let’s keep building on this success.”

Having spent 12 weeks based at the school between April – July 2025, working with the Scots players, developing, and supporting them on their quest for glory, Spurs Football Development coach, Micah Walters, said “I’m so pleased and happy for Scots College for winning the national cup. Having had the pleasure of working with the boys I know how much time and effort went into achieving what seemed like an impossible feat for the school. Adding on from the futsal competition they won last year, Scots College can continue their push for being one of the best sporting schools in New Zealand”.
