Danny Rose is relishing being in the thick of the action again.
The flying full-back has been in fine form of late with eye-catching performances against Chelsea - particularly off the bench in the second half of the second leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final - Fulham and now Watford at home on Wednesday night, where he raided forward time after time as we searched for a late winner and finally delivered the cross for Fernando Llorente to head home in the 87th minute.
Go back a year and Danny was battling back from a knee problem that would eventually rule him out for 10 matches between January-March, 2018, a tough time having spent eight months of 2017 sidelined as well. He recovered to feature 17 times in 2017/18 – a number he overtook for 2018/19 in that dramatic victory against Watford.
Asked about his form at Wembley, Danny responded: “I feel good. A year ago, I didn’t think I’d be in the position I am now, back in the team and back playing well. I’m just trying to enjoy playing again, contributing to the team and just want to see where that takes me and the Club.”
It was probably my 15th cross! The last one thankfully found Fernando and the finish... it’s brilliant. That goal will do wonders for him
Coming off the back of two tough cup defeats and with results going our way in the Premier League on Tuesday and Wednesday night, you felt victory over Watford was vital.
Once again, the players dug deep to turn around a 1-0 deficit thanks to Heung-Min Son (81 minutes) and Fernando (87) and Danny was particularly delighted to see Fernando’s header nestle in the corner, sparking jubilant scenes.
“It was probably my 15th cross!” he said. “The last one thankfully found Fernando and the finish... it’s brilliant, it’s what he’s done throughout his career. That was probably his hardest chance of the night and he scored it, so we’re delighted for him. That’s two in three for him now and we all hope it continues.
“That win showed we don’t know when we’re beaten. It showed we always stick to the plan. I thought it might be one of those days but we kept plugging away and thankfully we’ve got Sonny back and he scored and that goal for Fernando will do wonders for him.”
