Harry's fired up for the derby

Harry Kane believes Sunday’s north London derby is the ‘perfect game’ to get us firing on all cylinders again.

We go into the clash with Arsenal on the back of a frustrating 1-0 home defeat by Newcastle where, despite dominating in possession, we were unable to find a way past a resolute Toon defence.

It was a performance that Harry admits the team were extremely disappointed with, but he feels that this weekend’s trip to the Emirates to face the old enemy (4.30pm) provides us with a great chance to get our season back on track.

“It’s the perfect game,” our number 10 admitted. “It’s a game that can really give us some momentum and give the fans a boost with a good result.

“Everyone was disappointed after the Newcastle game and rightly so. We know it was a performance that we weren’t happy with ourselves. We’re the first to know when we’ve played well or when we haven’t. We know we’ve got to do better, work harder and hopefully perform better on Sunday.

“A north London derby away from home is a chance to really get our season back on track - there’s no bigger game to get us motivated.

“Obviously we’re only three games into the season but we know the standard of the Premier League and the teams around us, so we have to make sure we don’t drop too many points. It’s a massive game for everyone and hopefully we can get the job done.”

If Harry appears against the Gunners on Sunday, it will be the 11th senior north London derby of his career and, having scored nine career goals already in this fixture and holding a record of just three defeats in that time, he knows exactly what is needed to get a positive result.

Pointing to our 2-2 draw away to Manchester City on 17 August, where we battled hard to take a point from the Etihad, the forward knows we will have to show that same level of fight if we are to get a positive result in N5.

“City was a good result even if we could have done better in terms of the way we played, but sometimes you just have to grind out those results against good teams,” he explained.

“We did that against City, but I know we can play better than that and hopefully we’ll show that against Arsenal on Sunday.”
