Fernando hails 'amazing' keeper Paulo

Fernando Llorente has added his voice to the chorus for Paulo Gazzaniga after the goalkeeper marked his Champions League debut for us this week.

After taking his chance and impressing in a handful of appearances in the Premier League and Carabao Cup this season, the Argentine stopper pulled off some fine saves in his first ever outing in European football’s elite competition as we came back from a goal down to beat PSV 2-1 at Wembley.

Striker Fernando, who stepped off the bench to set up Harry Kane for our 78th-minute equaliser, is close to Paulo around Hotspur Way and was pleased to see the former Southampton keeper shine in what was a crucial game for us.

This is important for the team as the players that don’t play regularly need to always be ready to help the team.

“I am very happy for Paulo as he made his first start in the Champions League and he did very well,” smiled the experienced front man.

“He is working very hard and he is an amazing keeper. He played like a veteran even though it was just his first game in the competition – he played with a lot of confidence.

“He is always very focused in training and he is always trying to improve. Toni Jimenez (goalkeeping coach) pushes him every day to improve and, for me, his mentality is amazing.
