Christian hails young players' courage

Christian Eriksen was very impressed with how the younger members of our squad took their chances on the pitch as we concluded our USA Tour this week.

Anthony Georgiou, Luke Amos, George Marsh, TJ Eyoma and Oliver Skipp were all given minutes as we took on Roma, Barcelona and AC Milan in three useful pre-season outings in the States.

And Christian felt they certainly made their mark.

The midfielder was full of praise for the youngsters following their performances, but the Dane reserved extra praise for 17-year-old midfielder Skipp, the youngest member of the Tour squad.

“They have all shown great courage,” Christian said. “They want to play. A lot of them have trained with us plenty of times like Anthony and Luke but the guy who is the youngest, Skippy, has really taken the game into his hands and tried to do his thing.

We need to be ready, I need to be ready and I don’t think that’s going to be a problem.

Christian Eriksen on the start of the new season

“I like his courage, he’s not scared to get the ball, not scared to tackle, he’s an all-round midfielder and with a lot of training and getting a bit older I think he will be there.”

Christian had returned quickly from his World Cup campaign with Denmark to be a part of the USA Tour, but the midfielder made it clear that he’s feeling fit and that he can’t wait to get the new campaign underway.

“I feel good!” Christian smiled. “We’re footballers and we’re here to play football. I enjoy it, so there is nothing to complain about! I had my rest and I feel fit to go and now it’s about starting the season well. We need to be ready, I need to be ready and I don’t think that’s going to be a problem.”
