Tottenham Hotspur
On Thursday night, we took an early advantage in our Europa League round of 16 tie with Dinamo Zagreb as we won the first leg 2-0.
In what was a hard-fought affair at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Harry Kane was clinical in front of goal, hitting the target either side of half-time to see us head into next week’s return leg in the Croatian capital two goals to the good.
Here’s a look at some of the key statistics and numbers behind the game...
Unrelenting Kane
42 - Harry Kane has now been directly involved in 42 goals for us this season in just 37 appearances. Only Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski has been involved in more (45). In his career to date, only in the 2017/18 season has Harry more registered goal involvements (46) than this year (42).
26 - No Premier League player has scored more (26) or assisted more (16) goals than the England skipper this season. His 26 goals this season surpasses his tallies from each of the past two seasons (24 goals in both 2018/19 and 2019/20).
8 - Harry Kane now has eight goals for us in Europe this season, equalling the Club record for European strikes in a single season (two other Spurs players share the record - Martin Chivers scored eight times in Europe in 1971/72 and 1972/73 as did Martin Peters in 1973/74).
35 - Harry Kane has now been directly involved in 11 goals in just seven Europa League appearances so far this season - he is averaging a goal involvement every 35 minutes in the competition.
30 - He has now scored 30 goals in his last 34 starts in major European competitions, including nine in his last seven outings.
Thriving in Europe
3 - We have progressed from each of our previous three Europa League knockout ties when we have won the first leg (Lyon and Internazionale in 2013 and Wolfsberger AC in February).
6 - We have won all six of our home matches in the Europa League this season, scoring 22 goals and conceding just twice.
7 - We are unbeaten now in our last seven matches in the competition (W5 D2) and have won each of our last four games - in that run we have scored 22 goals, finding the target at least twice in each outing.
Spotlight on Dinamo
1 - This was Dinamo Zagreb’s first defeat in the Europa League this season. They had been unbeaten in eight games and had won each of their last six.
13 - We have played Dinamo Zagreb just twice in our history to date. Those two games were 13 years apart, but Gareth Bale played in both.
5 - We have kept five clean sheets in our eight encounters to date with Croatian sides and have recorded a shutout in each of our last three such matches.
Other notable numbers
5 - We have won each of our last five games - our joint-longest winning streak under Jose Mourinho to date. We haven’t won six in a row in all competitions since November, 2018.
12 - Ben Davies has not missed a single minute of our Europa League campaign so far, playing the full 90 minutes in all of our 12 games.
