App exclusive: The game in numbers - Spurs 2-0 Brentford

Wed 06 January 2021, 12:30|Tottenham Hotspur

On Tuesday night, we booked our place in April’s Carabao Cup Final with a 2-0 win over Brentford.

In what was a closely fought semi-final tie, Moussa Sissoko opened the scoring for us at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium with a fine header on 12 minutes. Heung-Min Son then sealed the win with 20 minutes left to play as he dashed through the heart of the Bees’ defensive hive before firing home to send us to Wembley.

Here’s a look at some of the key statistics and numbers behind the game...

Player in focus - Moussa Sissoko

1 - Moussa Sissoko’s goal was his first for us since December, 2019, when he scored in our 5-0 Premier League win over Burnley. It was also his first shot of the season.

3 - Moussa’s last three goals for us have come against team names beginning with ‘B’ - Bournemouth, Burnley and Brentford.

2 - The French international has been directly involved in two goals for us this season (one goal, one assist) and both of them have come in his last two outings in the Carabao Cup.

4 - Moussa has now scored five goals for us since making the move to north London in the summer of 2016 - each of the last four of those have come at home.

60 - 60 per cent of his five goals for the Club have come at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium (3).

6 - Only six Spurs players have scored more goals at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium than Moussa Sissoko since we moved to our new home in April, 2019 - Harry Kane (22), Heung-Min Son (19), Lucas Moura (10), Dele (six), Erik Lamela and Giovani Lo Celso (both four).

On our way to Wembley

9 - We have now reached nine League Cup finals in our history - only Liverpool have appeared in the competition’s showcase on more occasions (12).

3 - Jose Mourinho is just the third manager to reach the League Cup final with three different clubs (Chelsea, Manchester United and us) after Ron Atkinson (Manchester United, Sheffield Wednesday, Aston Villa) and Ron Saunders (Norwich, Manchester City, Aston Villa).

8 - It was Jose Mourinho’s eighth semi-final in domestic football in England - he’s been victorious in all bar one of those ties.

5 - Jose Mourinho is leading a side into a League Cup Final for the fifth time - he has won all four of his previous finals in the competition (2005, 2007, 2015, 2017).

Building from the back

5 - Serge Aurier and Pierre-Emile Højbjerg both made five tackles each in the game.

89% - Davinson Sanchez completed 89 per cent of his passes - 56/63 passes - the best success rate of any Spurs player to have played more than 45 minutes against Brentford.

7.1 - No player enjoyed more possession of the ball in the game than Eric Dier (7.1 per cent)

10 - Davinson and Eric made five clearances each in the game.

5 - Pierre made more tackles than any other player in the first half (5).

10 - We recorded our 10th clean sheet of the season - as many as we did throughout the entire 2019/20 campaign. It was also our first in the Carabao Cup this term.

Going for goal

2 - Sergio Reguilon now has two assists in as many Carabao Cup appearances - he provided the assist for Erik Lamela’s goal versus Chelsea and the assist for Moussa Sissoko’s goal versus Brentford.

4 - It was Sergio’s fourth assist in all competitions this season - a return only bettered by Harry Kane (14) and Heung-Min Son (8)

5 - Tanguy Ndombele completed five take ons in the game - more than any other player.

6 - In providing the assist for Heung-Min Son's 70th-minute strike, Tanguy has now been directly involved in six goals for us this season - as many as he was in the entire 2019/20 campaign.

3 - Heung-Min Son made three key passes in the game - more than any other player.

16 - Only Harry Kane (17) has scored more goals among Premier League players in all competitions this season than Sonny (16).

24 - Sonny has now been directly involved in 24 goals this season in just 25 appearances (16 goals, eight assists).

6 - We have scored six goals so far in this term's Carabao Cup and each one has been scored by a different player (Erik Lamela, Gareth Bale, Ben Davies, Harry Kane, Moussa Sissoko, Heung-Min Son).
