Jhanaie Pierre has received a maiden call-up to the England Under-19s squad for the very first time ahead of three qualifying games for the UEFA Women’s U19 Euro Finals, with goalkeeper Sophie Jackson also retaining her place.
The young forward has previously represented England at Under-17 level, but has been selected for her first-ever call-up by John Salomon following a number of impressive performances for our Under-19s in recent months.
Having been part of our Academy set-up since the Under-10s, Jhanaie has been training with our first team throughout the campaign while featuring for our Under-19s in the Professional Game Academy League, where she has eight goal contributions (five goals and three assists) in 15 games so far.
She was named in the 21-player Young Lionesses squad, which also features Academy shot stopper Sophie, ahead of their qualifiers against Lativa, Wales and Switzerland, with a place at this year’s finals at stake.
With all games taking place in Switzerland, first up is Latvia on Thursday 9 April (4.30pm UK) before facing Wales three days later (4.30pm UK) and Switzerland on Wednesday 15 April (12noon UK).
Elsewhere, Lenna Gunning-Williams maintains her spot in the England Under-23s squad as they battle it out for the WU23 European Competition Title this month.
Our Academy graduate earning a spot in Lydia Bedford’s first squad as the Head Coach for the Young Lionesses as they make the trip to Spain for the competition.
The Under-23s will face the Netherlands on Monday 13 April (5pm UK) at the Pinatar Areana in the semi-final before the final will be played a few days later with the winner of facing either Sweden or Belgium in the other tie. There will also be a third-place game for the two losing sides.
