Man City vs Spurs (WSL) | Key stats | Aiming for a response in the WSL

Tottenham Hotspur
We will be looking for an immediate reaction on Saturday lunchtime as we take on Manchester City at Joie Stadium in the Women’s Super League.
Following last weekend’s frustrating defeat to Everton at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, all eyes will be on the midday kick-off in Manchester to see how we react – and previous experiences usually show we respond well after suffering a setback.
In our previous five defeats in the WSL, we’ve won four of our five following matches in the competition, which included that emphatic 7-3 win at Aston Villa last month to record our second-highest victory in England’s top flight.
City, however, pose an impressive home record in the WSL this season, winning their last 10 games at Joie Stadium or Etihad Stadium and remain the only team in the league with a perfect record on home soil.
Martin Ho will be keen to change our fortunes around against the Cityzens, who have only suffered defeat to us once in 12 previous meetings in the WSL, and strengthen our spot in the top five of the current standings.
Sitting top of the WSL with a seven-point gap to Chelsea in second, Andree Jeglertz’s side were held to a goalless draw by Aston Villa last time out, failing to score in two of their last three WSL matches – having lost 1-0 to Arsenal last month.
All eyes will be on Signe Gaupset as her goal against Everton last weekend saw her net in back-to-back games in the WSL and she could become just the third player to net in three consecutive appearances in the competition for us – after Bethany England and Martha Thomas.
Here are some other key headline pre-match facts, courtesy of Opta, ahead of our trip up north:
- We have won both of their last two WSL away games, including a 7-3 win at Aston Villa in our most recent. We last won three in a row on the road in the league in October 2021, though they have never done so in the same Women’s Super League campaign.
- Manchester City won 13 of their first 14 WSL games this season (L1), but have since dropped points in two of their last three league matches (W1 D1 L1) – despite that, the Citizens will be aiming to keep three consecutive clean sheets in the competition for the first time since February, 2024.
- We have scored 10 league goals from players aged 21 or under this season, only one fewer than across our four WSL campaigns combined (11 since 2021-22).
- Manchester City’s Khadija Shaw has scored 12 WSL goals against us with only Vivianne Miedema scoring more times against an opponent in the competition (14 vs Bristol City); the Jamaican is the only player to net three hat-tricks against a side in the Women’s Super League, with those coming in each of her last three home appearances against us in the top-flight.
- Since her English top-flight debut in January, Signe Gaupset has recorded the joint-most shots (17) and the most shot ending carries (nine) of any player of ours in the WSL.
