Olivia Holdt has provided plenty of entertainment on the pitch this season – and there’s even more to come in a Lilywhite shirt after she penned a new, long-term contract with the Club.
The exciting midfielder has been rewarded after what has been an excellent first full season, from showcasing fantastic footwork to get fans off their seats to scoring sensational long-range strikes or composed finishes inside the box.
Those consistent performances, combined with bubbly character on and off the pitch, has seen her become fans’ favourite as she fully settles into life as a Spurs player.
Although she made an immediate impact after joining us in January, 2025, scoring in stoppage time on her debut at Crystal Palace, she feels that she’s ‘in a really good place’ this season and is excited for what the future brings with the Club.
“I'm very, very happy, very pleased to be staying at this club. I feel very content, every day at the Club and [I’m] just excited for the future,” she told us, speaking to SPURSPLAY after signing her new deal.
“For me, as still quite a young player, it's important with the playing time and also just the environment I'm in every day. I know that people will often see every Sunday or Saturday when we have the games, but there's so much more work behind that.
“I feel like where I am right now, I'm in a really good place in my career, where I'm in a very good environment and I feel like I can develop every day in training with both amazing staff and even more amazing team-mates that help me and push me every day.”
With Head Coach Martin Ho taking the helm in the summer, the Denmark international has certainly excelled under his tenure, providing 11 goal contributions in 22 appearances this term, and she believes that is just one of the factors to her strong displays throughout the current campaign so far.
“Coming into this league as a new player, I think it does take a couple of months or, for me, it took almost a year to really settle and feel like I'm at my place. But, also, Martin [Ho] coming in with some really good energy and really setting the tone and standard for this team.
“In the summer, after I'd been here for six months, I told my family, ‘Oh yeah, I feel settled now’. But looking back now, I think, since January or like a couple of months before, that's where I really feel like, okay, I'm here to play my part and really give something to the team.”
Asked about where she sees herself developing, she added: “I think to still try and get involved in goals and assists. But just to keep growing and developing with this team. I think we're in a really good road right now and I just want to continue. That's also one of the reasons why I want to commit to this process with Martin and the whole of Spurs. I'm just really excited and I just hope we can keep developing.”
Watching Oli from the stands, it’s fair to say she brings smiles to faces with her sublime trickery on the ball to glide past defenders with ease.
Well, it’s the exact same for her on the pitch, beaming with a smile on her face as has the ball at her feet, while bringing that energy off the pitch to her team-mates and staff.
“I need to feel trusted by the coaching staff, especially my team-mates around me. I just love playing football,” Olivia said. “If I can just get the football and have fun, I don’t really care about pressure or who we are facing – as long as I get the ball and play some nice football, alongside my team-mates, that’s how I perform best.
“It's the most important for me - that's why I started playing football, that's why I still play football. To be able to call or to say that football is my job now is just a big plus. At the end of the day, I play football because I enjoy it.
“I hope that people see me as one they can rely on, always comes in with a smile on my face, not too serious and if there's something I'm very, I'm very direct as well. Hopefully I’m just a, a good team player who cares about my team-mates and want the best for the team.”
Asked about what the supporters mean to her, she added: “I play for the fans. I love when I do something in the game, we score a late winner or whatever, and we can hear them. It's so important for us and it pushes us forward. I just want to say thank you and keep coming because it's so nice to hear and see them every game.”
