Lucas Bergvall came off the bench to play a key role in Sweden's dramatic qualification for FIFA World Cup 2026 on Tuesday evening.
The midfielder entered the fray after 69 minutes of the European play-off final against Poland with the match balanced at 2-2 in Stockholm - Sweden led twice, but were hauled back twice.
With 88 minutes on the clock, Lucas's shot from 16 yards was parried out by Poland goalkeeper Kamil Grabara, Besfort Zeneli struck his follow up onto the inside of the post and the ball rebounded to Viktor Gyokeres, who fired home from close range.
It ended 3-2 - and that means Sweden - missing Lucas' team-mate Dejan Kulusevski as he battles back to fitness from a long-term injury - are through to the finals in USA/Canada and Mexico, where they will take their place in Group F with Japan, Netherlands and Tunisia.
