We head into Sunday’s Barclays Women’s Super League early Sunday kick-off at St Helens Stadium aiming to complete a top flight double over the Reds for the first time.
Returning to WSL action after last weekend’s Women’s FA Cup triumph over Leicester City at Brisbane Road, we tasted success over Gareth Taylor’s side at home earlier in the campaign at Brisbane Road.
Toko Koga’s first goal for the Club cancelled out Beata Olsson’s opener before captain Bethany England completed the turnaround in the second half to claim a 2-1 win back in November, 2025.
While we’ve enjoyed an impressive home record over the Reds, losing just once in five games, they’ve yet to suffer defeat to us on Merseyside in three attempts in WSL, winning once and drawing twice, including coming from 2-1 behind to earn a point last term.
In what looks set to be a game of fine margins, with either side winning by a one-goal margin in the last eight WSL meetings, our captain could be the difference maker once again against her former club.
Scoring the winning goal in the reverse fixture earlier this season, Bethany could become just our third player to score against Liverpool both home and away in a single campaign – after Celin Bizet in 2023/24 and Clare Hunt in 2024/25.
A 1-0 win over Leicester City in our first WSL game of 2026 earlier this month extended our run to four games unbeaten in the competition as we look to maintain our momentum in England’s top flight, sitting fourth in the table and level on points (23) with Arsenal.
Opponents Liverpool remain winless in the WSL this term after 12 games but, in their last five outings in the league, Taylor’s side have picked up three points – with draws against London City Lionesses, West Ham United and league champions Chelsea – to take their points tally to four in total.
Liverpool are winless across their opening 12 WSL games this season (D4 L8), with only four sides failing to win more games from the start of a campaign in the competition’s history - Yeovil Town (all 18 in 2017-18), Doncaster Rovers Belles (15 in 2016), Everton (all 14 in 2014) and Reading (13 in 2016).
Here are some other headline stats, courtesy of Opta, ahead our clash against the Reds in WSL…
- Liverpool have dropped more points from winning positions than any other side in the WSL this season (11), failing to win all four of the league games in which they have led this term (D1 L3). That includes the reverse fixture against Spurs in November (1-2).
- We haven’t trailed in either of their last two league games (W1 D1) and are seeking to avoid going behind across three successive matches in the WSL for the first time since December, 2024 and January, 2025 (4).
- Liverpool have failed to have a single shot on target in more games than any other side in the WSL this season (two). Indeed, those two blanks have come across their last three matches, as often as it happened across the Reds’ previous 94 games in the competition.
- In our 1-0 victory over Leicester City last time out on MD12, we attempted (700) and completed (612) more passes than they have managed in any previous WSL game, while it was also Spurs’ highest possession share in a single game in the competition (73%).
- Making her Liverpool debut last time out against London City Lionesses, Jennifer Falk kept the Reds’ first clean sheet of the league season; no goalkeeper has recorded a shutout in both of their first two appearances for Liverpool in the WSL.
