Julie Blakstad is officially a Lilywhite!

The Norway international is our fifth signing of the winter. She has penned a long-term contract with the Club and will wear the number 41 shirt.

Having had a previous spell in England with Manchester City between 2022 and 2024, she returns to Barclays Women’s Super League after an impressive two-year spell with Hammarby IF.

Arriving in north London for the next chapter of her career, get to know Julie with 10 facts about her.

Why number 41?

Julie has worn the number 41 shirt throughout both her youth and professional career.

The 24-year-old explained that it was number that she chose in her youth career with Ottestad, her first club and, ever since then, she has continued to wear the number 41 proudly at every club.

“I’ve had it since I was maybe six or seven years old at my first club, Ottestad, which is really close to my heart,” she told us. “I had some really good years there with good friends and good coaches. When I left that club, I went to my first senior club in Norway, and since then I’ve just kept that number.

“I think it’s pretty cool because when people buy 41, it’s definitely me they want to have on their back - there aren’t many others who have that number. So yes, I think it’s a cool thing to have.”

Away from the pitch

While impressing on the footballing pitch, Julie continues to develop herself away from it.

She is currently studying a master’s degree in civil engineering – a subject close to her heart - and is in the fifth year of her course.

“I think, for me, it has been really good to have that environment outside of football, having friends that aren’t only just talking about football all the time, which can be nice sometimes. I like to use my brain as well and learning new things,” she told us.

“I used to like mathematics and I’m quite keen about the environment, being renewable, so I think it’s a good opportunity to get a job and learn new things for the future, as I believe we need to change energy systems. These are things that interest me and it’s quite a safe job when you have finished football.”

Down the slopes

While Julie pursued a career in football, which she says was always her priority, she revealed that she used to do cross-country skiing in her younger years.

Despite her career in professional football, it hasn’t stopped the midfielder getting her ski equipment on now and again, most recently in Norway this winter.

Nicknames

Julie has revealed that during her time with Rosenborg, one of the backroom staff gave her the nickname ‘Jules’ and that has stayed with her since then.

Family pet

When talking about her family back in Norway, she revealed that they have a family dog.

It’s a cocker spaniel called Liten – which actually means ‘little’ in English!

Team-mates reunited

Throughout her career to date, at club level and on the international stage, she has played alongside a number of our current players.

Julie shared the pitch with Cathinka Tandberg at Hammarby IF, where the forward joined us from in September, 2025, while she has represented her nation alongside ‘Tinka’ and Signe Gaupset.

Then, during her loan spell at BK Hacken in 2023, she lined up alongside Josefine Rybrink, Anna Csiki and Hanna Wijk.

Personal accolades

After helping FL Fart to promotion to Norway’s top flight (Toppserien) in 2018, she impressed greatly as a teenager in her maiden campaign at the very highest level in her homeland.

Starting in all 22 league games for FL Fart in the 2019 campaign, scoring four goals in total, Julie was voted as Toppserien’s Breakthrough Player of the Year.

The personal accolades kept coming for the winger, winning the league’s Young Player of the Year award for the 2021 season, in which she scored 10 goals and contributed three assists in 17 appearances.

Making her mark on the international stage

Having represented her country  at Under-19s level, Julie earned her maiden call-up to Norway’s senior side in September, 2020. The following month, she then made her international debut in a 1-0 win over Wales – a result that ensured her nation’s spot in the 2022 European Championship Finals.

She enjoyed one of her standout moments of her career to date in those Euro Finals in 2022, scoring her nation’s first goal in the tournament – coming in a 4-1 win over Northern Ireland in the group stage.

Versatility

One of Julie’s strong attributes is her versatility on the pitch as she can play anywhere down the left-hand side.

In the season just gone by with Hammarby IF, she spent the majority of the campaign as a left full-back and certainly racked up some impressive numbers from that position, scoring 15 goals and registering six assists in 26 league games.

“I think I bring a lot of offensive style to that position,” she added. “That’s why I like it - I can come into the box quite late, which makes it hard for opponents to pick me up, and I can contribute with goals and assists, which I really enjoy. Hopefully I can bring that offensive part here as well.”
