Will Lankshear was back on the scoresheet for Oxford United on New Year’s Day, but it wasn’t enough to prevent his side from suffering a 2-1 defeat at high-flying Ipswich Town.

The striker latched onto the ball and drilled home an angled shot on 34 minutes, cancelling out Jaden Philogene’s opener for the hosts.

But Chuba Akpom restored Ipswich’s lead five minutes before the break and that’s how it stayed, with Kieran McKenna’s side moving up to second in the Championship. Managerless Oxford, meanwhile, are 23rd.

Will completed 84 minutes before being substituted.

His goal was his sixth of the campaign so far.
