Eveliina Summanen will be hoping to continue her strong Women’s Super League record against Aston Villa when we make the trip to Villa Park on Sunday (kick-off 12pm UK).
Fresh from signing a new, long-term contract this week, the midfielder has produced six goal involvements (four goals and two assists) in 10 appearances against the Villans in all competitions, with three of those goals coming in the Women’s Super League.
Two of those three strikes came in a superb brace in our 3-3 draw in April, 2023, while the other was netted in our 2-2 stalemate at Villa Park last term, where the Finland international converted from the penalty spot.
Away from WSL action, Eveliina also found the back of the net against Villa in the Women’s League Cup last term – a 40-yard stunner into the top corner to earn us a 1-0 win at Brisbane Road, a goal that was rightly named our Goal of the Season for 2024/25 campaign.
We tasted success in the reverse fixture earlier this season, but it involved plenty of late drama at Brisbane Road. Kirsty Hanson handed Villa the lead six minutes from time, despite being down to ten, but goals from Bethany England and Olivia Holdt staged a dramatic comeback and secure a 2-1 win.
Following last weekend’s defeat to Chelsea at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, we’ll be looking to return to winning ways this weekend and, if we can pick up three points on the road, it would only be the third time we have won four games away from home in a single WSL campaign, doing so in 2021/22 and 2023/24.
Meanwhile, keep an eye on Julie Blakstad, as, since making her debut at Liverpool last month, the Norway international has created the most chances from open play (five), made the second most interceptions (five) and had the third most touches in the opposition box (10) than any other player from our squad.
Here are some other headline pre-match facts, courtesy of Opta, ahead of this weekend's clash...
- Aston Villa have only won one of their last four WSL home games against us (D1 L2), with both teams taking a lead in a 2-2 draw in this fixture last season.
-
We beat Aston Villa 2-1 in the reverse fixture earlier this season and could be the first team to complete a league double in this matchup in the Women’s Super League.
-
Aston Villa have lost three of their four WSL games in 2026 (W1), only one fewer defeat than across their final 16 league matches of 2025 (W8 D4 L4).
-
We have won three of their seven away matches in the league this season (D1 L3), only achieving more victories on the road in a WSL campaign twice before: four in both 2021-22 and 2023-24.
-
Aston Villa have only won one of their five WSL games this season in which they have had more than 50% possession (D1 L3), conceding nine goals across those games. Meanwhile in their 10 league matches without the majority share of possession, the Villans have picked up 12 points (W3 D3 L4).
-
Aston Villa have conceded three or more goals in six different league matches this season, the most times of any side in the 2025-26 WSL. Across the last five matchdays (since MD11) the Villans have conceded 17 goals, five more than any other team in the top-flight.
-
Anna Patten could move ahead of Sarah Mayling and become the player with the most appearances made for Aston Villa in Women’s Super League history (both 83 currently); the Villans have lost all three of their league games with Patten as captain, however.
