Atletico Madrid in the Champions League round of 16

Fri 27 February 2026, 11:10|Tottenham Hotspur

We have been drawn against Atletico Madrid in the UEFA Champions League round of 16.

In a draw at the House of European Football in Nyon, Switzerland, this morning, we were drawn onto the blue side of the bracket and pitted against the Spanish side.

We will first travel to Madrid, Spain, to face Atletico in the week of 10/11 March in the first leg of the two legged tie before hosting them at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium the following week for the return leg (17/18 March).

This will be our first competitive meeting with Atletico since the 1963 European Cup Winners' Cup Final, which we triumphed 5-1 to become the first British team to win a major European trophy.

It will also be our first visit back to the Wanda Metropolitano - home of Atleti - since the 2019 UEFA Champions League Final.

We most recently came up against them in a pre-season encounter in Melbourne back in 2016 as part of the International Champions Cup.

Exact fixture dates and kick-off times will be confirmed tonight.

Ticketing details are now available.

Route mapped

The draw also mapped out our route to the final, should we progress in the competition.

Drawn to the blue side of the bracket, should we edge Atletico Madrid in the round of 16, we will then play the winner of Newcastle United and Barcelona in the quarter-finals.

Should we then progress past that stage, a potential semi-final would be against one of Bodo/Glimt, Sporting CP, Bayer Leverkusen or Arsenal.
